and distinguished guests,
it is an honor to be here.
I'm Ok-ryun Moon, the president of the Korea Harm Reduction Association.
Today, the Korean people are exposed to many harmful risks including obesity, drugs, alcohol, and smoking. Despite the interdisciplinary efforts by various institutions to eradicate those harmful elements in our society, those risks still remain a great threat to our people. Therefore, the Korea Harm Reduction Association(KHRA) wants to protect the public from health hazards and recommend proper treatment.
‘Harm Reduction’ is not about treating the public and patients in coercive manner in order to attain quantitative impact in a short period of time. ‘Harm Reduction’ rather aims to "decrease" the harm factors through implementing a long-term plan, while constantly raising the public awareness of those harms. With the new therapeutic approach of 'Harm Reduction,' I'm confident we can achieve improved health and quality of life for all people.
Thank you for your interest in our efforts, and I would like to ask for your continuing support for the new path KHRA is embarking on to substantively improve the health of the people.
Ok-ryun Moon, chairman of KHRA
